10. Makalu
Makalu merupakan gunung tertinggi kelima di dunia yang tingginya 8481 m di atas permukaan laut dan terletak di perbatasan Nepal dan China. Gunung Makalu memiliki bentuk yang unik yaitu berupa piramida empat sisi dan terletak hanya 19 km tenggara Gunung Everest. Upaya pertama untuk mendaki gunung dimulai pada tahun 1954. Namun, pendakian yang sukses pertama kali berhasil dilakukan pada tahun 1955 oleh tim ekspedisi Perancis yaitu Lionel Terray dan Jean Couzy.
9. Lhotse
Lhotse terletak di perbatasan Cina dan Nepal dan terhubung ke Gunung Everest melalui wilayah selatan gunung yang tingginya 8516 m di atas permukaan laut. Sangat sulit untuk mendaki gunung ini karena berkali-kali dilakukan namun selalu menemui kegagalan. Pendakian puncak utama Lhotse pertama kali dilakukan pada tahun 1956 oleh sebuah tim ekspedisi Swiss, Ernst Reiss dan Fritz Luchsinger. Puncak Lhotse bagian Tengah tetap menjadi titik tertinggi di Bumi untuk didaki, sampai 2001 ketika Ekspedisi Rusia akhirnya berhasil melakukan pendakian pertama.

Kangchenjunga adalah gunung tertinggi ketiga dunia dengan ketinggian 8586 m di atas permukaan laut, Kangchenjunga terletak di perbatasan India-Nepal di wilayah Himalaya. Terdapat lima puncak gunung yang disebut “The Five Treasures of Snows“. Upaya awal mencapai puncak gunung dimulai pada tahun 1848. Namun pada tahun 1955 Joe Brown dan George Band baru berhasil melakukan pendakian pertama. Wilayah Gunung Kangchenjunga terdapat di empat negara yaitu Cina, India, Nepal dan Bhutan.
7. K-2
K-2 adalah gunung tertinggi kedua di dunia. K-2 atau Godwin Austin memiliki ketinggian puncak 8611 m di atas permukaan laut dan terletak di barat laut wilayah Karakoram. Dikenal sebagai gunung yang buas karena tingkat kematian yang tinggi saat dilakukan pendakian. K-2 terletak di perbatasan Cina dan Pakistan. Karena hampir tidak mungkin untuk melakukan pendakian K-2 dari wilayah China, maka banyak pendaki gunung melakukannya dari wilayah Pakistan. nama K-2 diberi nama oleh Thomas Montgomerie pada saat dia mengamati wilayah Karakoram dan puncak-puncak gunung tersebut diberi label sebagai puncak menonjol, K-1 K-2, K-3, K-4 dan K-5. Usaha awal untuk mendaki gunung buas ini dimulai pada tahun 1902 dan pendakian pertama yang berhasil akhirnya berhasil dilakukan pada tahun 1954 oleh Lino dan Achille Lacedelli Compagnoni dalam Ekspedisi Italia. Satu fakta menarik tentang K-2 adalah bahwa tidak ada yang pernah mencoba untuk mendaki puncak selama musim dingin karena sangat berbahaya.
6. Gunung Everest
Gunung Everest adalah gunung tertinggi di bumi yang terdapat di pegunungan Himalaya timur antara Nepal dan Tibet. Gunung Everest adalah sebuah gunung kapur muda yang belum terkena oleh erosi dan memiliki dua puncak, salah satunya mencapai ketinggian 8848 m. Everest selalu tertutup salju kecuali bagian yang terkena angin kencang. Banyak terdapat gletser yang meningkat dekat dasar Gunung Everest. Everest adalah nama yang diberikan pada gunung ini tahun 1865 untuk menghormati Sir George Everest, seorang surveyor Inggris di India yang menemukan lokasi gunung dan memperkirakan ketinggian gunung. Dalam bahasa Tibet diberi nama Chomolungma yang artinya “ibu dewi dunia”.
5. Mauna Kea
Mauna Kea adalah gunung berapi aktif terbesar yang terletak di sebelah utara Pulau Hawaii, sekitar 43 km barat laut dari Hilo. Ketinggiannya 4205 m di atas permukaan laut, Mauna Kea menghujam ke wilayah laut sedalam 5547 km ke arah dasar laut. Jadi, jika dihitung dari dasar laut ke puncak gunung maka Mauna Kea adalah yang tertinggi di Bumi. Terakhir kali Mauna Kea aktif lebih dari 4000 tahun yang lalu. Pada puncaknya terdapat salju yang mengerucut dan biasa digunakan untuk bermain ski serta wilayah ini termasuk dalam situs Observatorium Mauna Kea yang merupakan observatorium astronomi tertinggi di dunia. Pada lereng bagian atas gunung terdapat gua tempat orang Hawaii kuno menggali basal untuk membuat peralatan. Lereng bawah gunung biasa digunakan untuk peternakan sapi dan perkebunan kopi. Gunung ini dianggap dalam legenda Hawaii sebagai rumah dari Dewi Poliahu, dewi api Mauna Kea.
4. Pegunungan Maxwell
Maxwell adalah titik tertinggi di permukaan planet Venus yang tingginya 11.000 m. Terletak di dataran tinggi utara Ishtar Terra, yang asal usulnya berasal dari sabuk pegunungan yang masih kontroversi mengenai awal mula terbentuknya. Maxwell ditemukan pertama kali pada tahun 1967 oleh para ilmuwan di Radio Telescope Amerika Arecibo di Puerto Rico. Boösaule dikenal sebagai gunung tertinggi non-vulkanik dari sistem Tata Surya. Gunung ini terletak di Io, satelit terbesar keempat Tata Surya dan merupakan satelit terdalam dari Planet Jupiter. Io secara geologi cukup menarik karena mengandung sekitar 400 gunung berapi aktif dan berisi lebih dari 150 gunung pada permukaannya. Gunung Boösaule adalah salah satu gunung yang terletak di barat laut Pele besar yang menakjubkan dan mencapai ketinggian 17.500 m. Gunung ini mendapat namanya dari sebuah gua pada Mitologi Yunani disaat Epaphus yang merupakan putra Dewa Zeus lahir.
2. Bubungan Khatulistiwa
Terletak di belahan bumi yang gelap dari satelit terbesar ketiga, Lapetus di Planet Saturnus, Bubungan Khatulistiwa terdapat di sepanjang belahan tengah yang terisolasi beberapa puncak setinggi 20 km. Bubungan Equatorial ini ditemukan oleh pesawat ruang angkasa Cassini pada tanggal 31 Desember 2004. Pembentukan punggungan masih diperdebatkan para ilmuwan, namun telah disepakati bahwa bubungan kuno ini terbentuk karena permukaan yang berkawah-kawah. Tonjolan yang sangat mencolok dari punggungan ini membentuk satelit Lapetus seperti buah kenari.
